Repowered, a fast-growing nonprofit and leader in electronic waste recycling, was at a pivotal moment. With momentum building around its mission and a capital campaign on the horizon, the organization needed to build its first-ever development program. That meant making a critical hire: a Director of Advancement to architect fundraising strategy and lead revenue expansion.

 

But this wasn’t just about filling a role—it was about finding a values-aligned, mission-driven leader who could grow with the organization and champion its future impact.

The DEJ Group was brought in to lead the executive search. We kicked off the process by immersing ourselves in Repowered’s culture and vision. Through discovery meetings with the CEO, executive team, and staff, we built a leadership profile that reflected not just the technical needs of the role—but the human needs of the team.

Our search strategy began with a focus on local talent and then expanded across key regional hubs including Rochester, Mankato, and Duluth. Using a combination of our trusted networks and cutting-edge analytical tools, we reached over 85 potential candidates, ultimately curating a competitive and diverse slate of 14.

Our structured screening process, paired with collaborative panel interviews involving the CEO, executive team, and frontline employees, led to three standout finalists—all bringing strong development backgrounds and nonprofit alignment.
